Kinda Difficult

Though Beijing, China and Singapore does not have any time differences, I am feeling kind of weird. It is just unable to describe as it is not jet lag or something, maybe I was disconnected with my clique and family for nearly 6 months. At that point of time, I only need to cool down and take a rest.

Qing Yang and I went back to our initial project to take some photos before finding that the pet-owner. We tried to take as many as photos as possible because we would want to bring back more memories as we could. Lastly, we took pictures with the place that we stayed for nearly half a year. Time flies, the moment I was still bathing in that toilet, next moment, I find myself bathing at my home’s toilet. 5 months plus of attachment just gone in a flash, when came to think of it, I still misses it. Though initially, I find it tough to adapt or even live in such places, I yet to regret in coming here at all.

This marks the end of my OSIP in Beijing,China. What I can say is that it is tough yet enjoyable and did not regret in coming at all because I really learnt a lot of things out of it.

We went back to settle our Appraisal and testimonial, the company treat us lunch as a farewell as they can’t afford to have it at night. After spending almost whole day in company, settling things and taking photos, chit chat. We went off for free and easy, go to the last place that we wanted to go, buy the things that we wanted. For once, time seems not enough for me.

When back at home, we were all busy with packing with luggage, it is because that our entire luggages are overweight. So much for the formal stuffs, right now. I need few minutes to voice out how I feel towards this entire OSIP. However, I think I leave that when I safely reach Singapore because right now I am very concerned about my luggage weight.

We went back to main office in the morning to settle our SIP Logbook, Appraisal, Testimonial, etc. We spent the whole day clarify and finish it ASAP. Moreover, we are finding all means for the weight management for our luggage. This is a headache right now. We almost settled our SIP Logbook, Appraisal and Testimonial. All can be done by this Thursday which is a must.

We did not go anywhere today as we are quite tired from the packing of luggage and tidying up of the house. While rest of the time, we are busy with the writing of report.

Today is our last Sunday over here, after today, we will only stay here up until this Friday. Our admin clerk actually invited Qing Yang and I to her house to have a lunch with her and her husband. We had a hard time in finding the way to her house, not in terms of direction but in terms of transport because her house is not located in the city area. At this point, I glad that Singapore is small and easy transport to almost everywhere. It is not some feast; it is just some home-cooked dishes. However, it is very tasty. I can boldly say that it is one the finest food I had here since I came. We sat down and have lunch together and chatted throughout. Some simple dishes yet tasty, we had a great time. After the heavy lunch, we watch the Olympics Basketball Final. The USA got the Gold medal which is somehow expected all along. Today is the end of the Olympics, 8th August 2008 – 24th August 2008, 16 days; 7 years of preparation. They came a hard way; it is not easy for them at all regardless of sharing their culture with others and opening their door to the world. I sincerely hope that this Olympics will change the view of others toward China and brings the world closer together as one. “One World, One dream” Indeed, simple words but tells it all.

Our last Saturday over here, thus, we ought to spend it wisely. Use the time to go to those places that we didn’t go in the first place or those place that we all along wanted to go. If we don’t grab this chance, we may never able to go in the near future.

As we are leaving on 29th August, we requested off for the following week. It is because we need to settle quite a lot of things, writing of report, packing of luggage, etc. Thus, today will be my last day of work over here. Time flies, they seriously do. It has been 160 days up till today which means I have at least work 150 days over here. Things don’t go smoothly from the start; one needs to learn how to adapt in order to carry on with life. Life is full of ups and downs which is part and parcel of life. There are a lot of things that I wanted to write down to express how I feel all along. However, I will leave all later.

I didn’t go to my world trade centre project. I went to the Fairmount hotel to have an eye-opener.

Since they are assigned in testing the VGA, Audio, USB ports, etc, I tagged along. First few rooms, I was like only looking, can’t help much but after which, things got easy.

It is not difficult at all, it is just repeating procedure. The site visit was divided into two parts, early afternoon; we went to check USB ports and VGA.

While in late afternoon, we went to check additional of AV and audio. Though it may sound nothing to you but it is something new for me and I like new things.

Day 156 ; 18th August 2008 Mon

Finally, our very last week is here, many thoughts filled my mind at once. I am leaving everything and back to reality soon. Work, we still got to report to the workplace as notice is not given for us to have a break or something. After a long day, the admin staff and I went back home. However, when on the way back home, we are stopped by some interviewers. They are from Japan, Fuji TV, they asked about how we feel about the Olympics. They asked whether we know that the girl was not actually her singing at all and about those 56 different races, they are not really from their races. Regardless of whether what they asked, I only know that this time round, China did a very good job, so far, everything is according to plan. At least, up till now, nothing goes wrong yet. Thus, they really put up a lot of effort. 7 years of preparation is only for the Olympics period of 17 days. I went home for dinner to end my day.

We went to search for the place that we saw on television, that place is good for giving friends, relatives for presents rather than just buying those foods. After buying it, I went to search for my duffel bag but in vain. I shall see whether I really need it at all before buying, however, the main thing that I want to think about it. It is where to have my hair cut. We had our dinner at “The Place” before heading back home. My legs are swollen are a day of walking.

I woke up late and did not feel like going out at all, thus, spent my day at home watching all those Olympics games. However, Kind of sad because didn’t get to see my country in any of the events. I am excited and happy because I get to know that our woman is playing table tennis final tomorrow, singles and doubles. I wish all the best for them and hope them create history for us.

I went back to work but still nothing much could be done. 2 days ago, we happened to meet project manager from another project. He told us to go to their site for sight-seeing which I am very interested about. As I don’t have many things to do right now, I can go for an eye-opener. Moreover, my project manager also agreed about it, thus, I think I am going next week. However, there is a bad news regarding about the company outing. We are not able to make it as they decide to have the outing on 29th August 2008 which is the exact date that we depart for Singapore. Though it maybe just an outing but it is the last gathering together with my colleague. Maybe next time when I come for Beijing, I will meet up with them but I hoped that when I returned, I will be a successful man by then.

We simply enjoyed ourselves though it is just healthy socializing and building “Human network”. Qing Yang met his long lost friend and we all managed to get around today, knowing each other and chat our heart out. The feeling was great because we are able to chat with some fellow Singaporeans, at that very moment, I don’t feel that I am in Beijing, feels like being at home. Nevertheless, I think it’s somehow due to some “Singlish” though everyone is trying to speak perfect English. I think that the overseas Singapore Portal has done a pretty good job by organizing all these, though we are quite young for these but I seriously think that I am going to get a lot of things out of these.

Our CEO thanks us for putting up a good job during our attachment period but I thanked him instead of giving us such chance to being exposed for such things. I don’t think I will have such chance back in Singapore.

I went to work and finally, there is something for me to do, I was told to translate something for something that is required for meeting. I got to do on the spot without any aid of computer and luckily I managed to finish it on time.

I went back to work after a long holiday, once again, nothing much could be done. I think this situation is going to last me until the end of my OSIP. I didn’t want this because I want to learn as more as possible before heading back to Singapore. That is why I am here in the first place, not only for my Internship Program. Also, to learn more; learn what that can’t be learnt from classroom and textbooks. I went back home straight when time is up because I got nothing to do at all. I had a simple dinner to end my day but before I went to bed, I went to pack up my luggage.

Qing Yang and I went to the place that I went before but sad to say that they are not open until September.

Happy National Day!

I wore RED..

I am not able to spend National Day in Singapore but my heart will always be in Singapore. Singapore is small but it got everything but things over there are kind of harsh as the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. I was told that things in Singapore have been rising ever since I was here because I am not aware of it as I not in Singapore. I sincerely hope that Singapore will prosper but I also hope that everyone in Singapore will lead a fruitful and happy life. We went shopping again as we are going back real soon, just want to grab something that worth the price rather than getting in Singapore because it is just too expensive to shop in Singapore. I bought 3 t-shirts and one small bag for putting passport, coins, etc. We had a late dinner before heading back home and the air was really bad which I think that it is due the massive fireworks that happened yesterday’s opening ceremony. I hope this does not affect those people who came to Beijing for this Olympics and most importantly is that, I hope everything runs smoothly, no complaint, no riot, etc just peace.

Olympics are here, it is finally here. After 7 years of hard preparation, the Chinese finally gets the chance to host the Olympics. 7 years is a long time, it is not easy for them from opening themselves and changing their way of culture to be presentable to the rest of the world. As it is a public holiday for us, we went out because we didn’t want to stay at home on such a happy day. Olympics main purpose is to compete in various sports but another important thing is to bring everyone together, bring peace to every corner of the world. Representatives from over 200 countries are all gathered in Beijing right now, this is the 29th Olympics and the motto still never changes; World Peace. It is rather heartwarming to see people from every part of the world to come together to compete in the same goal, regardless of skin colors, languages that they speak religious, political wise, etc. Maybe every Olympics, only then, I am able to see a united world. At night, which is the opening ceremony of Olympics, 08.08.08, 8pm, we went to a church gathering to watch. Over there, there are people from various countries.

The feeling isn’t same from watching at home. We saw TEAM Singapore, 52 proud members; I hope the best for them. Bring glory back to our little red dot. After the ceremony ends, we went out to flag taxi back. Though the place doesn’t have any crowd but the security is tight, China is really putting a lot of effort in this big event. I sincerely wished that nothing goes wrong too because no matter what happen, it will be very crucial to China. It is not easy as everyone was doing so. However, lady luck is smiling at us, gave us two taxis as we got 5 people. I wrote this immediately after I got home. Just want to write every singly thought as my mind is still fresh. It is because; I am somehow involved in Olympics. Not like just at home, Singapore, watching LIVE telecast. Our Singapore is having birthday tomorrow, I wonder which ceremony will be grander.

Day 145 ; 7th August 2008 Thurs

It is just 1 day before Olympics, so near yet so far. 7 years of preparation. It is just tomorrow, they will see results of it. After work, I did not went back home straight because I need to get a luggage since it is cheap to get one over here and I need it. With the help of my friends, I managed to get one at the price of ￥135 when their offer was initially ￥450 at least. Afterwards, we went back home, thinking of taking taxi back but there are a lot of people waiting for it. Thus, we decided to walk back instead and I need to carry it back. Came to think of it, Olympics are just tomorrow and I am really very lucky to be here at this time.

As I said, this might be only once in a lifetime and though we failed to get any tickets to it, I am glad that I am in the host country at that very time. I wish if I can, I would like to do something to contribute to this Olympics. So far, I seen all sorts of people, be it any countries, you name it, we have it. The feeling is unable to describe, though I might be thinking too much, I am just feeling happy to see people from around the world to come here and compete for the very same goal; Gold medal.

I went to office to spend my day, though there isn’t any tasks being assigned, we still need to go because we are all needed to be in stand-by mode in case of anything. I was told that I need to hand in my report at the end of August. Which means that I got lesser time and ought to plan my time well as less than one month, we are returning back to Singapore.

I went to work or in fact, I should say office only because there isn’t any work for me to do as there is no construction work able to be done. I don’t have things to sign as all are being passed to the new staff, no documents to take as there is no construction work being done. It is just like going there to spend my time.

We went out; they went for shopping while I just go out for the sake of going out. It is because it is just bored staying at home. We went for some shopping; I tried the Chinese style of pizza. Not bad as it is something new and makes me want to have one more. After everything, we went home because we got nowhere to go. We have Beijing roast duck for dinner which is a must to have when come to Beijing. Moreover, it is their famous brand and it is well-known worldwide. It is must try brand when you come to Beijing. After dinner, we walk back home as it is a walk-able distance.

Finally, my long awaited, I don’t need to work during Saturday. Qing Yang and I went to the largest distribution centre in Beijing today in search of gifts or present to be given to relatives and friends. Though that place was huge but I am not able to find anything suitable as I went mind blank and felt dizzy inside. It is because it was all over the place, too much things and too many people. After which, we went to meet Zi Liang and Yan Yu at our favorite place, Wang Fu Jing. Qing Yang bought some Olympics dolls for his cousin and we bought some shirts before heading for a movie. We watch a local Chinese film; not that entertaining at all, we watched to pass time. We walk back home as all those buses are crowded with people, we walk for at least 2km before reach home. I went to bed without dinner as I am too tired for any.

I start my day with a light breakfast and head on to work. I was being asked to get something to be signed. Also, I was asked to buy top-up card for the office phone. I finally finished the tabulation as the dateline is today. There is good news, from this Saturday onwards; we need not to come to work anymore as OT is not required.

Today is the last day of July and its just 8 more days to the start of Olympics. All these while, I been observing Beijing. Though it may sound unbelievable, I did but it just a small part. I can see that they are actually improving themselves, regardless of culture-wise or etc. Even though this is the first time coming to Beijing and the preparations was like 7 years ago. By then, I was only primary 6; it is really my luck to be caught in this Olympics because one will only maybe experience only once. However, I am not able to get the tickets. Though I am not able to really go and watch any matches, I will try my best to be part of it. After all, this is an event that happens every 4 years and you wouldn’t know whether you will be in that country by luck.

I went to work as normal because our PM did not say that we need not to come tomorrow. I started doing the Alarm system position table. However, we are all feeling very tired and wear out. Thus, I went home straight after being dismissed from work. I went back to cook dumpling with noodles, I think from now, I got to cut down the amount of oil to be taken in. After dinner, I sat there blogging which takes quite a lot of time until late night.

Day 134 ; 27th July 2008 Sun (斯恩威十渡两日游 2/2 Day)

We begin our day with a hearty breakfast, the type of breakfast that they have, their breakfast was something new for me though I was here for like 5 months.

We are going for hill climbing today, the place was simply great but it is too tiring. Another thing to note is that; don’t ever wear cheap shoes to climbing hill. Not only have you needed to sustain your stamina, you need to endure the pain that the cheap shoes gave.

Nevertheless, we reached the top, the peak of the hill we stand and took some pictures. I had never climb any hill before, thus, the feeling is kind of new.

Next, we got to climb down the hill and it is not that easy as climbing up because of my shoes. Finally, we reached the bottom, the whole journey was like visiting scenery at every point and upon reaching the top, and we got to make a detour back to the bottom.

My legs were like trembling when at rest and next we went on to “rafting”, I don’t really know how to describe it, with a thick bamboo stick and we got to move the “boat”. It is not easy as seen because it needs some effort and strength to do so.

We have a battle of water though it may sound rather childish or even look childish but I can tell you that, it is fun, lots of fun. After we are all drenched with water, we went back to the motel to have lunch before heading back to Beijing city area.

We are all dead-beat after everything, though the bus was lousy, no air-conditioner. We all just simply doze off at instant.

The bus driver was kind enough to let us to drop off at desired point if it is along the way. The tour guide even asked for mine msn to keep in contact in the near future. My conclusion of both days is that, I had a great time, never had such time with my colleague. I also wondered what they do during free time because they don’t have shopping centre or something. Country-side is a place for relaxing, away from cities, to holiday, I can but to live, I can’t. Did and see something that I never even think of. Many thoughts fills my mind, no matter what is it, being happy is the most important thing. When reached home, after washing those soiled clothes, I went to bed and sleep. I have never felt that tired before. I did not even have dinner and I went to sleep.

PS : Since I am still smiling which means that overall, I truly enjoyed myself

Day 133 ; 26th July 2008 Sat (斯恩威十渡两日游 1/2 Day)

We are going for an outing, no more empty promises this time round. We are going to the country-side this time round. Though we have been going Malaysia but we did not really experience the real country-side life. Here it goes; we are going for a two days tour. We started off with a lunch, a truly different place to have meals.

Though we are inside a cage of net to shield off fly, or bugs, they are just too many of them. We did not know what to do as we are new to such places; we started off by watching people playing mahjong. We are to decide what to have for dinner and this part right there kind of unbearable scene. However before that, we got to choose which lamb to be slaughtered for dinner as we chosen roasted lamb; it is the whole lamb that will be roasted. Though I have been eating meat since I was young, we don’t go through this scene anyway. Though I can’t stand the situation but I think I ought to take some pictures of it because they still will be slaughtered anyway. One way to repay in them is not to waste their meat. From this, I really know that, when there is no demand, there will be no supply.

They way of playing is certainly different from us. After which, we are going to a nearby amusement park, with flying fox and bungee jump as the two main events. As I am afraid of height, I decided to give it a miss.

Instead, I went to play “Jeep” and visited the temple over there.

After a long day, we went back and it is our turn to play some mahjong. My PM asked whether we know how to play, we certainly do but not sure about their rule over here. However, as we goes on, I can see that their way of playing is totally different from us, they don’t have so much rules compared to us and the rate of winning is so much higher. The lamb that was still kicking, was already been roasted on the table. Once again, though the scene was unbearable again, we got to eat it no matter what because we chose it. I try not to waste my share as I don’t want it to die for nothing. Thus, to everyone out there, don’t waste any food, regardless of rice or meat or even vegetable. After dinner, there are two programs, KTV and bon-fire however both are too disappointing.

The streets out there was pitch black, no street lights at all. Once again, I have some thought, I am real fortunate to be born in Singapore and live there. When you see something better or worse, you will know more about your current situation. After walking out in the pitch black streets, we came back for mahjong again but I was too tired that I asked Qing Yang to take over me instead. I went back to the room and get some rest. However, one of my colleagues came up to bathe as their room’s water supply was stopped. After he bathed finish, we sort of chatted about hometown. I asked how their hometown like was and it so happened that the television was showing some hill areas and he told me that his hometown was sort of this kind. Once again, I felt fortunate and will appreciate with what I have. I also asked what are you doing back there and your parents too. They are farmers, farmers who led a hard and harsh life. Work the hardest of all yet earn the least of all. Hence, we seriously must try our very best not to waste any food. I had a lot of thoughts for the day; few paragraphs can’t really express what is going on and how exactly I felt.

25th of July is the opening sales of the Olympics tickets, as a Singaporean, we intended to give it a try however, those people here a more “kiasu” than our Singaporean. There are at least a 10 thousand of people already there when it is only 11.00pm at 24th July; I mentioned the word, at least.

Though we saw the amount of people, we still carry on because there isn’t any public transport back. The place was in a mess, crowd, police, and guards; however, it is safe because there are a lot of policemen.

Judging from the language that we spoke, a lot of locals asked about where we come from. We made a lot of friends though.

However, in the morning, due to some estimation, I doubt we are able to make it thus we decided to give up. After one night on the streets, lying and sitting down. We gave up because it would at least take us 2 days to reach there. I more in giving up after a policeman say that the first person in the Queue was here since 23rd July 12pm. Though we came back empty-handed but I think it’s an experience for us and I guessed I had to catch my USA Dream team of basketball on television.

I went to work and pass my remaining of AI to the new staff. Until then, I think my part is almost done, I can’t do nothing much either. As I have either finished my task or passed those remaining to the new staff. I could only wait for new task to come. Just I was mentioning about new task being given, I was given new task. I was told to tabulate those CCTV once again but this time round, it is the most accurate, with the most recent drawings, AI, etc. Though it was only from B4 to L6 but I think that it is going to take me a few days.

After work, I went to meet Wei An for dinner. However, when I was on my way to Silk Street in meeting him, some foreigner was finding the way to Silk Street. As I was on my way there to, I bring them there instead of just directing directions. I asked where are they from, they are from Greece and I told them I am from Singapore; not local. They spoke a language which I never heard before, but thankfully, in China, it is sufficient when you know English and Chinese. Somehow, at least for now, we are in advantage but things won’t be the same in 10 years down the road. Upon reaching the place, I asked why do they want to come here, they said that they came here for shopping and asked what the operation hour is. After I told they and I also tell them that they got to bargain over there. One of the foreigners actually gives me a pin, though it is not something that worth any money but I think that will be the best thing that I get from here. It is actually a pin of their Television Station; I think they are from media or something. It feels great in helping someone.

I went back to work, doing the content page for various types of documents that we have. As it shall be an on-going process, I shall not say much about it, the only thing is that, I get to know what had happened and is going on. I supposed it is kind of first-hand news and now certain things, they don’t know, I am able to answer their enquiry or even help them when they didn’t ask for my help because they thought that I won’t able to help, they were surprised when I answered without being asked. At times, they also will start to ask me things about this and that, though, it is not somehow related to my academic but it felt good as I will have a sense of belonging over there because they actually notice that I am there.

I went to church with Qing Yang and his sister and we went for shopping afterwards. We happened to come into a shopping centre which is having 50% “Mall-wide” and its happy hour is till 5pm. This is something that we never came across in Singapore. Moreover, we happened to came bump on the lady that I mentioned before; in the tour. It was such a coincidence to happen to see her as China has so much people. We are kind of shocked in the first place but quite happy as we got to see each other as we did not get to see each other for quite a time. I was struggling as I eyed on a jacket, NIKE; Jordan but its price is heavenly；￥900. It costs so much that I need sat there thinking and deciding for almost the whole day.

Today is the 19th of July 2008, every since, Qing Yang had been transferred to another project. He is still sleeping soundly on bed even when I am on the way in leaving house for work. I wondered why I don’t get to enjoy or even slack like them. It had been a while since I ever had two days off weekend. However, I give myself a miss, since this OSIP is already near the end. I shall stop whining and give it to my most. Our dear printer is spoilt again; however, as the screen shows English words, I managed to settle it. One of my colleague mentioned that who is going to settle it after you went back to Singapore. I think I should write down the respective meaning of those words, thus, they are able to deal with it when it is occurred paper jam or something.

We went for a late night movie again; it is the fourth time that we went for a movie over here which I think is sufficient. They were sort of having a promotion. They are giving out a cushion or something to every two tickets purchased. Though we only bought 6 tickets but we managed to get one each.

Not much work and thoughts for the day, I continue in doing the content for those entire documents that landlord sent us. As is 3 whole boxes full of documents, I can’t finish just two days. I am only able to finish the second box on the second day. Though it is rather a no skill job but yet, I got to know what had happened and what is going on. I joined Zi Liang and Yan Yu for McDonald’s dinner. After dinner, I went to check out the NBA store that has just opened recently, it was such a nice place but too bad, they don’t allow photographs. I tried on some NBA jerseys which are very expensive.

I was given new task today, which in terms, make the time pass faster. As earlier on, we did not keep track on what contractor used to send official documents to us. Thus, I was told to put everything in order, make an excel file so that, at any point of time, we are able to find any document that we want. I was asked to fill up a form for the workers because they are required to sign up for temporary pass because Olympic is around the corner. As I was filling up, I am shocked that there are actually few construction workers are younger than me. Though I was not that old but they are just too young for such work. I was wondering will this be their future job; even for entire life. I got to sit in an air-conditioned office and they got to stay under the scorching sun. I was really that fortunate as I was born in Singapore and had a good education. Thus, I think that is why I don’t need to do such jobs.

Workload is as little as before, I was not given any new tasks. Thus, the time seems passed slowly. When I got home, I can’t relax as I need to clear the bug that is infecting my computer, with the various help of my friends. I finally got to remove the bug from the flash player which is a headache to me because as I am not very good in computer software or hardware.

I went to work as normal, doing normal things. Nothing much; no new task being assigned. I think it is due to nearing to 20th of July. I was on webcam with my friend and she drew a picture of me

Actually, time passes slowly when you don’t have nothing much to do. I went to take bus to meet them and I really understand how one feels does when they live far from workplace. I am glad that our Company found us a lodging place which is a walk able distance from workplace. Hence, I need not to squeeze with those people because their amount of people is really unpredicted. I need to wait for at least 5 buses before I could get in one, I wondered what I will become if I got to squeeze every day, to work and to home. I joined Qing Yang’s uncle and sister for dinner, though I went invited but they don’t seems don’t welcome me at all. Moreover, his uncle came to inspect one company or factory. The boss of it treats us to a Japanese Cuisine but buffet style. However, the dinner was not the main thing because as we chat all along the dinner. I learn a quite a lot out of it because after all it is a conversation between Singaporean and Chinese and though I did not contribute much in the conversation; I absorbed a lot out of it. To them, it is more than just a dinner too because they were for a business purpose. I asked myself whether I will have that chance too, in my near future of my life.

I was told to bring one of the new staff to replace the temporary pass for staying in Beijing, however, I am very disappointed with that kind of attitude that the staff have. Who will want to misplace something yet she said that she is not going to replace for us if we lose it again. The worse thing is that, she even threw the money and pass back to us. The place that we went is Police Station, we did not commit any crimes yet we received such attitude and treatment. Olympic is around the corner yet they are not improving from all these. No matter how they change the outside, have clean environment, magnificent buildings, etc. It will still be the same if they are not going to change their attitude or fact, worse. The whole world is going to come to Beijing, the capital of China. If they want to show all these ugly side to the whole world, I think they should at least hold it back in 10 years’ time. They need to improve not only on the country image; individual plays an important part too.

Though we had a late night yesterday, I managed to make myself wake up and go for shopping to the place I wanted to go to. The place that we went, it did not disappoint me as one shirt costs around $1k plus. The place is sort of like Haji lane found in Singapore but it is way bigger.

I did not bring my laptop to work today as our PM promise to let us have a half day off, to let us relax and let go of ourselves as we have a hard time along the way. However, this idea was been dropped as few colleague turned up for work and we did not have any plan for the afternoon. Hence, we got to stay in office as it is still office hour. However, our PM let us go off earlier. We were told to go tag along our clerk to go to her house for a visit and be guest for them. It is the first time meeting her husband but we chatted like we know each other for a long time. We watched television together, walked the mall and had a quick dinner together. We had a great time though it is only a little time and we did not go anywhere but we enjoyed it. We went to catch a late night movie whereby we reach home at 2am which I am late for something; I am terribly sorry about that.

I finished yesterday’s translation in this morning, today is not that same though I was working the same work as before. It is because I was told to pass my AI process to the new staff that joined us, I don’t get used to it because I was all along being guided. Whereas, I need to guide someone to let her know what do I actually do at times. Though I held an easy position in the project team but my work is rather tedious. There are quite a lot of things to remember, etc. To actually able teach someone what to do means that I actually already clear of what am I supposed to do. However, there are more to come. After work, we went to have dinner together however; the dinner did not turned out to be like previously before.

Yesterday was exactly one month to Olympic which means that today is will be less than one month before the start of Olympic. In other words, I will be going back to Singapore real soon, 21 days after the start of Olympic. I went to work, was told to do a translation.

We had a big feast tonight, it is the first time that we actually cook and eat together. The feeling is different in going out to eat together because you only eat together when outside whereas, you got to do things together when you eat at home.

Here is another little corner of my thought: I normally dont say things out in public, either I keep it to myself or i will share to a listening ears.

Though it is hard to get over it and let go but I got to do so, I think right now, what I need most is time. Time will tell, time will heal your wound, wash away your memories. However, what I want to wash away is only pain, negative things, etc. The things that I want to keep are those memories and these painful lessons that I learnt from. All these, I will keep deep in my head and hold dear to my heart, no matter what, I won’t forget.

As I said that life got ups and downs, one got to accept eventually. No matter how sad are you or how badly you cry, the world won’t stop for you. Thus, why not be happy instead of being down. Life is short, make the full out of it. There are a lot of advices in the whole world, you are just need to find the correct one and apply it like doing Maths’ question, and certain formula suits certain question but the most important thing is that, you still got to know how to apply.

A little corner to share with my thoughts after what happened:

I felt sleepy today as I can’t get myself into sleep because I am still awake until 4am. I must tell myself to remember about yesterday and never repeat what is wrong again. Once again, I ought to say sorry and I can’t whine because I bought it upon myself. I also would like to thanks those who actually came and advise or console me. I know all those preach/advice, just that knowing them and applying them is two different matters. I must learn how to let go, after this incident, I might be seen childish or even negatively. However, I am sure that due to this, I ought to be more matured in handling things, etc.
My thinking must suit my age, ups and downs are part and parcel in life. It is just a matter on how you look upon it. Life can’t be that sail-smoothing all the time, thus, look on the bright side when you are down. Especially when you are alone, you tend to think of negatively things more and wildly. Keep yourself occupied, make yourself busy is the best solution to divert your concentration. Although I don’t wish this to happen in this way, I got no choice but to accept it regardless of willingly or unwillingly. What is done is already done; you can’t undo things like to recover spilled milk. The most important thing is that, don’t cry over spilled milk. However, I disappointed myself, I cried with reminiscences.
Thousand of words can’t contain/express how I feel, thus, I think that I will end here. Do things more maturely, don’t leave things HANGING; learn the various aspects of life. Knowing advices is useless without applying it. I wish all the best to both of them.

I went back to work; I supposed that today is the only day that another five is going work on Saturday. As I said before, Saturday is rather a relaxing day compared during weekdays. Thus, nothing much could be done either, I only helped out in filling up forms for those new workers, sorting out drawings; nothing much. I went back home for dinner and helped joyce to buy her dinner too as she was having a slight fever. On the way home, I saw quite a number of policeman and a patrol car raiding. Beijing is really putting an effort in the upcoming Olympic; it is real soon. They are really hardworking for today as they are not yet home even it has past midnight.

I went back to upload my remaining drawings online, spent my day photocopying, giving out documents to others. After a long day, my colleague asked whether if I want to join them for shopping that would be great as I can be their fashion adviser. We had a fun time shopping as we are all helping one of my colleagues to change his image. In the end, he treated us dinner and I told him that before I head back to Singapore, I will treat him back. I went back by bus and was caught in the heavy rain, raining cats and dogs. However, there is one kind lady who shared her umbrella with me. I sincerely thank her for her actions. This simply shows that, they are friendly; every single human on earth is friendly, just the matter of approaching only.

I begin my day by sending the tabulation of a device to my colleague as I spent my night doing it because it is needed urgently. It is continued from the table that I tabulated in 1st of July, I need to tabulate from level 6 to level 74. After which, I begin to uploading of drawings online which is a long procedure. I spent my day uploading drawings online and doing some other office work.

Every night I got to think of what is for dinner. I went to find the pet shop owner to ask her what is nice to eat over here as I am clueless about what to have for dinner. We had some chatting before telling me that the supermarket sells beef noodle which she likes to eat. Thus, I gave it a try which turns out to be not bad. I told her that we are leaving at 29 August, she was a bit shocked as she did not except it to be so fast. I can’t bear leaving here too; after all, you got some memories over here. Moreover, you bound to make some friends over here. You may or might not be able to see them at all, 2 months left; it will be gone in a flash.

I am quite early for work today, such a long day for me. There is a document that is required to sign before applying the installation cost for June. It is not that easy to sign, I need to bear with their attitude. For me, I will curse and swear if I were in the past whenever one treats me in this way. However, this time round, I held back. I told myself that I am working now; I can’t afford to throw temper now. Thus, I tolerate and ask them nicely to sign and they did. Thankfully, it did not waste my effort in tolerating someone. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

I had a surprise; I did not know that they will surprise me in such way. Thank you is what I can say because I don’t quite know how to express myself, what they did, made me felt bad in what I did to them in the afternoon.

Since I am 20, I tell myself. I need to be more mature, less emotional and learn to control my temper. I need to tell myself, ought to see at a brighter side. I am already that old thus I need to change my point of view and aspects of life.

I went back to work although it is Saturday, I did not do anything much. It is because not much people come anyway. I merely was changing the AutoCAD drawings into PDF format. Our PM is giving a treat because new staffs have joined our project team. We ate heartily and I brought two new staffs for photo-shooting. After work, I went back to change and went to see Kung Fu Panda, seriously don’t look down on cartoon. There are some meaningful phrases from it that is able to be taken off.

What can I mentioned is that, the talk is more than just a talk. I somehow able to understand what am he trying to say and the most importantly is that I did not doze off at all because it was really a meaningful talk. I could say that I learnt quite a lot of aspects from him. There is a light buffet after the talk, we went for it. There are a lot of Singapore delicacies which I missed them a lot. However, the most important thing is that this is a healthy socialization. We get to know a lot of people out of this.

Today is a long day for me again, doing the same things. I know that if stuffs don’t are not being done on that very day. Time really flies when you are in working industry, I did not even notice that it is Wednesday already. I had a long day tonight, mainly giving the devices serial number. I was told that I will be in-charge of this from now on. However, I did not have that much time to do because I got to help to move beds and help to get those bed sheets, pillows, etc. It is because our PM decided to rent the room beside us instead of renting an apartment outside. The apartment that we went yesterday was not bad. The rent is RMB￥3400 per month; I think it is okay, as it is habitable. However, our PM in the end rent the room beside and the rent is RMB￥2600. Even though you are able to make the room span and clean. There is nowhere for you to bathe, that is not for me because our hostel is walk able distance from here. Life is not easy over here.

I went to work as normal but I was told to photocopy two boxes of papers which eventually took the whole of my morning and afternoon. The admin clerk and I went to see apartment for those people who is working Over Time (OT). Afterwards, we went to main office to collect things and to pass things. After everything, our PM rent the room besides us instead. However, I don’t think that I will be able to stay there because my hostel is walking distance from here.

Congratulations! Today is the 100th day since we were here. However, there isn’t any celebration for it. I still got to work as normal in fact more stress than before. Our CEO, Mr. David Ong came by again. Once again although I am not part of the meeting yet I am able to hear roughly what is going on. I carried on with my work and I swear that today was a long day. It is because I work until I do not know about the time which has already past dismal time. I was told that my task of this week is to upload all the drawings online which are a long and tedious task. Although I am not able to write this into my logbook but from this, I am able to know the procedure about submitting drawings, etc. In the end, I learnt something out of it although it is a minor thing but from this, I know that, if you don’t do things yourself, you will never learn.

Wei Ann and I went to somewhere far today; we are tired of walking because we did not know which way to go. However, with the help of my colleague and a lot of passer-by, we managed to reach the place eventually. I bought two t-shirts over there. We joined Zi Liang they all for shopping and dinner after they finished their Great Wall of China tour.

Today is 20th of June, my sister birthday. I cannot celebrate with her as I am not in Singapore. Thus, I wish her happy birthday over here because she will come to my blog. I went to work as normal. Those AI that I did earlier on, I got to organize it orderly. Rest of the time, I continue in drawing the legend.

Today is a busy day for me, I came to work as normal however, I was told to go to main office to send the scanner for service. Something came across my mind as our company got their own thumb drive which is practical as I can bring back to Singapore and I also can have that for souvenir. However, I was told that it was limited edition; it went dead stock long time ago. I did a lot of things today, bringing scanner to main office, help to bring money claims to office, bring documents back and I went to print and have the company seal. However, I think all of these could not be written in logbook. I had lunch with Yan Yu and Zi Liang at Sakae Sushi.

When I return back to my office, I got tons of things piled up for me to do. I got quite a lot of things to photocopy and to be given out. Which occupied whole of my late afternoon, however, I still got upcoming task yet to finish. Documents that needed to be sign and I been given a new task, I was told to draw legends. I think this is the first time that I am going to really draw some AutoCAD drawings. He told me that it is not urgent but I hope I can finish it ASAP because my task will just keep piling up.

I look forward to today because we are going to treat Mr. Ong dinner as he treated us before. Moreover, we are going back to his apartment. However, this time round, we are going there with the correct attire. We are going for the gym, sauna, Jacuzzi and maybe snooker. I did normal job as before but I was told to edit the tabulation that we did earlier on.

I did not do anything much today. It is just a normal working day; I have not been given any task as quite a lot of my colleague is not in office. They brought back a cat from outside; it is rather big yet adorable.

I did not do any much AutoCAD or Excel because I was busy with the distribution of the drawings for almost the whole day. As I got to run up and down for distributing, thus, today ends quickly. I went home after work to have my dinner, after dinner, we had a game of mahjong. We have not played since a long time; we play the usual rules just that short of 4 animals (4 Tai). Moreover, we are using China currency. In the end, I won RMB￥1.20 which is equals to SDG$0.20+ when we spent around 3 hours for it. I coughs so badly until I am not able to sleep and Yan Yu gave me this bitter Chinese medicine before I can go back and sleep soundly.

We did not go anywhere until afternoon, we went to catch a movie in their “town”. Before that, we got to top up the prepaid card for our electricity. When I was walking the streets with them, I was told to have a photo shoot on what I am wearing. Never in my life I been approached that way, I was a bit shocked too because what I wore is very common in Singapore. Moreover, when I told my sister this, my sister says that this might be some scam. I was thinking, what they can do with my pictures. We went to their famous food street to have dinner before heading home.

I came to work as normal, doing the same routine. However, I think that they working on Saturday are rather less tense compared when working during weekdays. Whereas for me, I did the same routine; photocopying, etc. I been given a set of new (AI) although I finished yesterday’s.

The preparation of distributing of blueprints/drawings is finally done as I already got the respective authorities to sign. After finish compiling all the supporting documents, I distribute all of it to respective company. Later on, I was told to find out the increased devices which needs additional of wires, etc. They call it Architectural Instruction (AI), I need to look through all the drawings that are being given, to find out which is being added.

However, I did not ask why it is being added, they say it is too difficult to understand why there is a need for adding. After work, we went to meet Mr. Ong; he was used to be our teacher in Temasek Polytechnic. We had our dinner with him and went to see his service apartment.

The service apartment over here is very identical to our condo.

We went to the club house over there; we were chit-chatting.

I came to work, being very busy today. I need to do 3 things at one time. I got to prepare to distribute blueprints, finding out the cause why I am unable to submit blueprints online. After I finally consult the engineer and communicate with another side. I have finally able to submit those blueprints/drawings online. However, it not as easy as seen, it is a thorough and tough procedures. I am not able to finish by today. Thus, I continue tomorrow. I now able to see/visualize when in Singapore, you got to submit to BCA.

Day 88 ; 11th June 2008 Wed

I came to work as normal but when it was around 10 plus, blackout happened. There was no electricity. I thought that we will be dismissed as there is no electricity but I still got things to do. I was asked to check out the respective price of certain devices manually without using the computer. After we came back from lunch, the electricity is back again. I was told to find someone for the “shortcut” which is for the uploading of blueprints online. I had rice dumplings for my dinner as the admin clerk gave me three. I am bit envy about Qing Yang able to go to another project; he is able to learn more than me. While I need to stay at there as I got more responsibility than him.

The newly colleague ask me about what is the differences between a “半球摄像机 ” (Hemisphere camera) and “快球摄像机” (Quick ball camera). Even working here for 3 months plus, I still don’t know that question but after I did some research. I found out that hemisphere camera is fixed at that direction and angle whereas quick ball camera is able to rotate around.

Today we went back to work after two days of holidays, I have been practically went shopping for the past two days. I had spent RMB￥1200 for quite a lot of things. I had spent more than what I earned over here. Thus, I tell myself that no more shopping until the next payday. I must learn to control although the temptation out there is too big. Qing Yang is being transferred to another project today; I am here all by myself. I think from now on, it is just me myself.

Today is a holiday for us as it is a public holiday in China and today is exact 90 days or 3 months to the end of this OSIP. This is fast, as I say; I cannot imagine the day that we leave here. I am going to miss here. One of the thing that I will miss is shopping, I been to a lot of shopping this two days. I bought myself a Nike jacket,

One Bermudas.

Which is rather cheap compared in getting in Singapore.

What I want to comment on is the Bermudas, it only cost SGD$11.

We went to make spectacles again but this time round, I am making a pair of shades/sun-glasses with degree to allow me to see properly. I somehow regret in buying the blackish lens instead of brown. However, I cannot do anything much too

Afterwards, more shopping continues. I bought myself a pair of adidas shoes which I been targeting quite long.

An Esprit collar shirt and Esprit pullover. Everything that I stated above only cost SGD$200.

It is very cheap compared to shop in Singapore.

Day 84 ; 7th June 2008 Sat

Although according to the China’s law, we are supposed to have 3 days of holidays. We were told to come back to work on Saturday. We were told that the task which is given yesterday is needed urgently and was requested it to be done by today. Therefore, today was is a rush and the time seems to pass quickly. When it is our lunch time, the admin clerk asked me to accompany her to get something for her husband and we went. We even need to take MRT to the place and she even treated me lunch, two BIG-MACs. First time of my life, I ate two BIG-MACs in a row. After lunch, we had a stress half to go. Today is also the end of week 12th, exactly another half to go before returning to Singapore. I am starting to miss everything over here but still, I miss Singapore more.

We came to work but this time round, I am sitting at Qing Yang’s seat and he is sitting at the temporary seat. One of the staff came but another did not turn up at all. He is not coming at all which means Qing Yang is not going to another project. We are given a new task, to tabulate out all those 10 different systems in terms of different stories. Since it is sort of same as our very first worksheet that we did, we only copy from there but we need to do a double check as well. Although it is somehow similar, this is much less tedious than those previous charts. I am very happy as the “China.net” as already unblocks blogspot.com. It seems almost a month before it was being blocked.

As normal, we work but afternoon, they had an in-house meeting. It is because two new staff is joining us, as we are short of man-power over here. Maybe we did not really help, I felt rather useless too. Come all the way here from Singapore and I cannot really help much. We can only do the tabulation. Since two new staffs are coming over, there will not be enough space in the office because our office is rather small. Our PM asked Qing Yang to join another project. I need to stay back after work to clean up the table as Qing Yang will be sitting there.

Day 81 ; 4th June 2008 Wed

Our work is as normal, doing the normal routine as usual. Nothing special happened. As my B1 is finally finishing, we had an Overtime (OT). This post will be quite short as I wrote this after two days past, I just somehow forget about what exactly happened. A good news is that, our air-conditioner has finally arrived and being installed on the spot.

Today we came back to work like everyday do; we still continue the task that is being given way back. However, today is different because our CEO, Mr. David, came to see our project progression. Thus, we are doing our things at that very moment. I am quite excited about coming to work today because we are going to the highest level today. We reached the top of the building, 78th storey high up. The air up there was really fresh but just that the weather is not that nice, thus, we are not able to see everything up there.

We are back to reality; we are back to work. We bought some Singapore delicacies to treat our colleague, they somehow like it too. Qing Yang and I also gave our project manager a red packet for his son who turned one month old last Saturday which we did not get to attend his celebration. We went back home straight after work because we did know what to have for our dinner. At last, we have instant noodles as dinner.

Day 78 ; 1st June 2008 Sun (Tour Day 5/5)

Today is the end of the 5-days tour; we went for foot massage first before we have our final lunch together. I will seriously miss this tour group as I believed I made some friends out of it, who knows what will happen back in Singapore

Today we left the hotel that we stayed there for 3 nights and we went to “De Shen Men” to listen to some lucky object, (Pi Xiu)

After massage, we went for our last lunch together

Argh, Why I blinked?

Although I spent quite lot money in this tour but I did not regret at all. I managed to take some pictures with some of the people there. I also took picture with the cute lady that I mentioned, however, I did not get the chance to take picture with the tour guide. I also managed to take the glimpse of the two old elderly, 91 and 82 respectively.
Qing Yang and I have joined the CHAN BROTHERS TRAVEL tour, last time; I used to think that, people that come for tour, won’t really get to know about others. That is because you are not being open, open up and you will see a better world.
Especially for me, maybe you will think that I am thinking too much but the feeling was so much different from the past. We are here for almost 3 months, before seeing some Singaporeans. The feeling to me was great, I enjoyed the company with them, the language that they spoke,"Singlish, Hokkien, Cantonese”, that is Singapore!

However, at first, I did not really make any ice-breaking conversation with any people. But nature needs to take its course.

At first, I thought our tour guide was so-so and she still wears shades in the tour-bus. It is because it is really rude to wear shades indoor. However, all those things that happened, really makes me change the view of her. Maybe I have not been to a tour for a long time or maybe due to some other reason. She was really a nice person, I not sure about character as I do not really know her that well but at least she did a very good job as a tour guide. I felt that she is different from any other tour-guide because I felt that I really gained a lot out of it not only all those historical past from those tourist’s attractions. I also learned quite a lot of aspects of life and other truth about anything that she thinks of

That was a lady who I found her cute too, she was sort of tour-guide but was the translator for our fellow Indian friends from Singapore. She speaks English quite well and even followed Singapore’s Slang, “La, Leh, Loh, etc”

Day 77 ; 31st May 2008 Sat (Tour Day 4/5)

We did not go to any tourist’s attraction today but instead we went shopping for today. However, before that, we went to “Tong Ren Tang” a well known brand which has been for there for 339 years and still counting; Singapore even invited it

One of the doctors felt my pulse which I never tried before and what surprised me is that, I did not tell him what have been happening to me, he was the one telling me what have been happening to me instead. Just for this, it is so different from you see any western doctor. He say that my liver is weak due to some reasons, staying throughout the night, etc

He encouraged me to get the medicine from them which consist of 3 months but I only bought 1 month because I do not have enough cash with me.

Today is the day whereby we are to climb the great wall of China

I am very excited about it because after all, it is one of the 7th Wonders of the world

Before we reach there, we went to a Jade factory. The tour guide recommended us to get some things from there as it is worth the price, they sell the “jade pillow”, and I bought two for my parents.

We went to Temple of Heaven Park and Summer palace. We still managed to go to two tourist’s attractions. Lastly, we watch a show displaying a brief history of china. When comes into checking in into another hotel, we found out that, passports are required unlike the first hotel that we stayed in. I am very unhappy in the first place but I cool down at last because they are only just doing their job and we got to follow the system as the security is tight because it is Olympic year.

Qing Yang and I took off for the 5D4N tour; we went to quite a few tourist attractions.

Our tour guide said that, here have 9000+ over of such door, which means we need 3 years + to walk finish everything if we use one day to visit one

Thus, we only went to few "doors"

Notice those small salutes? They are not solely for display only, they are for a purpose, the more that a roof have, it symbolise the rank of the person staying in that house

Every successful things has a story to tell, regardless of how powerful does a emperor was last time, he still need to go for Mental Cultivation

To Qing Yang and me, today is the end of this week because we are going for 5D4N tour in Beijing, China. We informed our Project Manager in advanced and he allowed us take 4 days off, I am going to join Qing Yang’s family in the tour.

We had our lunch-box for lunch.

Whereas for today’s work, it is as normal but I did something out of my job scope, I did a table which consists of which people are required to sign on certain things and the flow of it too. We went back home after our early dinner and we saw the final tearing down of the house where we will get to pass by every day.

We went back to work; I have finally found all those people to sign on the (progressive) contract on payment on the installation and cost of the devices. I also get to know that, we are only doing the installations, whereas, those devices are from second party. However, there are some familiar brands, like Honeywell, etc which I got to know in my lecture notes. We went back home as soon as it was time to go home as the office is too warm and stuffy to stay in. We decided to cook for tomorrow lunch as we are somehow sick of the lunch from those staffs’ canteen.

We went out early in the morning as we went for a buffet, so called Best-buffet in China. Indeed, anyone knows how big is Tampines Mall food court? That place was at least 2 to 3 times bigger, and has 400 varieties of food from 10 over different cuisine from around the world, which means, by coming here, you are actually visiting at least 10 different countries for their food.

However, that is a price to pay as the buffet is SGD$40.00, I think once is enough because you want just to try those different cuisine, even you got the time to try all but I do not think your stomach have enough place for everything.

Early in the morning, I receive this from the admin clerk. After which, I went back to home as normal. We just found out a place to eat some of the dishes that Singapore has. We went home straight as the weather is just unbearable.

I came to work finishing the task that is being given yesterday, today is not that easy to pass as the weather is hot and stuffy as our office do not have any air con. I got to wet a towel as it is really unbearable.

Just after my dinner, we went down to the pet shop.

Actually there are 8 kittens, 1 MIA but I am not able to take a picture of all because I won't want to flash them as they are sleepy.

I am only able to take 2 out of 7 kittens with the limited light source.
